Web hosting cost in India: what you will actually pay

Entry shared hosting in India is advertised from about ₹69 to ₹383 a month, but most of those prices need a three or four year prepayment and renew higher, usually before GST. The fair way to compare is total cost over three years, including renewal and tax.

The quick answer

For a typical small business website in India, hosting is one of the cheaper running costs, but the advertised price is rarely what you pay. Three things move the real figure:

  1. The prepaid term. Most low headline prices apply only if you pay for three or four years upfront.
  2. The renewal price. After the first term, the monthly rate often rises two to six times.
  3. GST. Many providers display prices without GST, which is added at checkout.

Below are the price ranges we observed on official provider pages in October 2026, the maths for a three year comparison, and a full yearly budget for a small business site. Prices change often, sometimes weekly during sales, so treat these as a snapshot and check each provider's page before buying.

Price ranges by hosting type

Hosting type Entry prices observed (per month, October 2026) What usually pushes the price up
Linux shared hosting ₹69 to ₹383 introductory; published entry renewals ₹289 to ₹960 More sites, storage and mailboxes; shorter prepaid term
Windows shared hosting ₹109 to ₹599 introductory; renewals ₹229 to ₹1,299 Windows licensing, database engine, fewer providers
VPS (Linux) ₹289 to ₹699 for single core entry plans with 2 to 4 GB RAM RAM, CPU cores, storage, location, management
Windows VPS From ₹1,299 (GoDaddy, 4 GB, 3 year term) Windows Server licence
Dedicated server Competitor prices not captured; ODHOST from ₹11,499 RAM, CPU, disks, bandwidth, management

Where these figures come from (all official pages, observed October 2026, before GST unless stated):

  • Hostinger India Single plan: ₹69 a month on a 48 month term (₹3,312 upfront), renewing at ₹289 a month. The page says prices are listed without GST.
  • GoDaddy India Starter: ₹89 a month "for first 3-yr term". No renewal figure is published; the page says renewal pricing is subject to change and prices exclude taxes.
  • Bluehost India Starter: ₹383 a month for a 36 month term, renewing at ₹960 a month, marked "GST not included".
  • BigRock Standard: ₹69 a month, renewing at ₹409 a month. Windows Essential: ₹109, renewing at ₹229.
  • MilesWeb Starter: ₹69 a month, with a comparison table that defaults to 36 months and states displayed prices exclude GST (18%). Windows Standard Cloud: ₹599, renewing at ₹1,299.
  • VPS entry plans: BigRock NVMe 2 at ₹289, MilesWeb at ₹549 (renews ₹949), Hostinger KVM 1 at ₹599 (renews ₹999), GoDaddy at ₹649 on a three year term.

ODHOST note: ODHOST's shared plans start at ₹99 a month (Spark) and go up to ₹799 a month (Elite). VPS plans, on servers located in India, start at ₹699 a month and dedicated servers at ₹11,499 a month. Customers who need Windows or ASP.NET hosting can contact ODHOST for advice. Billing is monthly or yearly only, yearly is 12 times monthly, and the listed price is the recurring price at current rates. Applicable taxes are shown at checkout. Every plan is on the pricing page.

Four of the providers above show a lower entry price than ODHOST at headline level. The difference is in how the price behaves over time, which the next section shows.

Intro vs renewal: a 3 year worked example

Here is what an entry Linux shared plan costs over 36 months, using each provider's own published figures from October 2026. All competitor figures are before GST. Features differ between these plans (storage type, mailboxes, domain offers), so this compares price behaviour, not like for like value.

Plan How you pay Total for 3 years What happens next
GoDaddy Starter ₹89 × 36, prepaid for the 3 year term ₹3,204 Renewal price not published
ODHOST Spark ₹99 a month, or ₹1,188 a year ₹3,564 Continues at the listed price at current rates
Hostinger Single ₹69 a month needs a 48 month term ₹3,312 for 4 years (no 3 year figure captured) ₹289 a month from year 5
Bluehost Starter ₹383 × 36, prepaid ₹13,788 ₹960 a month from year 4

Over the first term, GoDaddy and Hostinger cost less than ODHOST Spark. Over 48 months, Spark costs ₹4,752 against Hostinger's ₹3,312. The picture changes after the promotional term ends. If today's list prices held, six years would cost:

  • Hostinger Single: ₹3,312 + (24 × ₹289) = ₹10,248
  • ODHOST Spark: 72 × ₹99 = ₹7,128
  • Bluehost Starter: ₹13,788 + (36 × ₹960) = ₹48,348

This is an illustration, not a promise. Any provider, ODHOST included, can change its prices. The point is the method: always add the renewal years you expect to stay. Our guide to hosting renewal prices covers how to read pricing tables, and monthly vs annual hosting covers the billing cycle choice.

There is also a cash flow angle. A four year prepayment of ₹3,312 is small for most businesses, but on higher tiers or several sites, prepaying ₹10,000 to ₹15,000 upfront ties up working capital that monthly billing does not.

How GST changes the bill

GST is charged on hosting as a service. The GST Council's services rate schedule taxes services not specified elsewhere, which include IT services such as hosting, at 18%. If a provider's price excludes GST, the amount you pay is 18% higher than the plan card:

Displayed price (excluding GST) GST at 18% Amount payable
₹3,204 ₹576.72 ₹3,780.72
₹3,312 ₹596.16 ₹3,908.16
₹13,788 ₹2,481.84 ₹16,269.84

If your business is GST registered, you may be able to claim input tax credit on hosting used for business. Rates and rules can change, so check the rate printed on your invoice and ask your chartered accountant. Our guide on GST on web hosting covers SAC codes and TDS questions in more detail.

A full yearly budget for a small business website

Hosting is only one line. A realistic yearly budget for a small business site looks like this:

Item Yearly cost driver Notes
Hosting Plan price × 12, plus GST Use the renewal price after the first term
Domain Registrar's renewal price for your extension First year offers do not last
SSL certificate Often ₹0 Included free on many shared plans, including ODHOST's
Business email Mailboxes included in the plan, or a separate per user subscription Separate services charge per user per month
Backups Included weekly or daily on many plans; extra for off site copies Keep your own copy as well
Maintenance Your time or a developer's retainer Updates, security fixes, small content changes
Design and build One time Usually the largest single cost in year one

For most small businesses, the domain, email and maintenance together cost more over three years than hosting does. That is a good reason not to chase a ₹20 difference in hosting price, and to focus instead on predictable renewals and the right plan size. Our guide on how to choose a hosting plan helps with sizing.

A checklist for comparing hosting costs

  1. Note the price and the term it needs.
  2. Find the renewal price. If none is published, ask in writing.
  3. Check whether the price includes GST.
  4. List what expires after year one: domain, mailbox offers, paid SSL trials.
  5. Calculate the total for three years, then for the period you expect to stay.
  6. Compare plans with similar limits: sites, storage, mailboxes, backups.

Frequently asked questions

How much does it cost to host a small business website in India per year?

At prices observed in October 2026, entry shared hosting cost about ₹830 to ₹4,600 a year during introductory terms and about ₹3,500 to ₹11,500 a year at published renewal rates, before GST and the domain.

Are hosting prices in India inclusive of GST?

Often not. Several large providers state on their pricing pages that prices exclude GST. Check the checkout total, not the plan card.

Is it cheaper to pay for several years upfront?

For the first term, usually yes, because providers discount long prepayments. But you pay the whole amount upfront and the renewal is usually higher, so compare the total over the full period you expect to stay.

Why do VPS prices vary so much?

VPS prices depend on RAM, CPU cores, storage, the operating system licence, location and the prepaid term. Windows VPS usually costs more because the price includes Windows licensing.
