Included feature

Free SSL certificate on every shared hosting plan

SSL encrypts the connection between your visitors and your website, turns http:// into https:// and removes the "Not secure" warning. It is included with every ODHOST hosting plan.

Why every site needs SSL

Encryption

Form entries, logins and payment redirects travel encrypted, so they cannot be read in transit.

Trust

Browsers mark non HTTPS pages "Not secure". Visitors notice, especially on forms.

Search

Google has used HTTPS as a ranking signal since 2014 and recommends it for every site.

Modern features

HTTP/2, many browser APIs and most payment gateways require HTTPS.

Free SSL vs paid SSL

Free and paid certificates use the same encryption. The difference is validation: free certificates are usually domain validated (they prove you control the domain), while paid organisation or extended validation certificates also verify the business behind it. For most websites, including stores that redirect to a payment gateway, a domain validated certificate is all you need.

After SSL is active

Make sure every visitor ends up on https://. Update your site address to https in WordPress or your CMS, redirect http to https, and fix "mixed content" where pages still load images or scripts over http. Our help article walks through each fix.

Do I need to renew the free SSL?

Certificates have a fixed validity period and must be renewed. Check the expiry date in your control panel and ask support how renewal works on your plan.

Why does my site still say "Not secure"?

Usually because some images or scripts load over http, or the certificate does not cover the exact domain you typed. See fixing SSL warnings and mixed content.

Does SSL cover www and non www?

It should cover the domain names that point to your account. Check both versions in your control panel’s SSL status page.
